Natasha, Pierre, and The Great Comet of 1812
1812. Moscow. Sort of. Depending on the moment, you might also find yourself in a Russian drawing room, a neon nightclub, or somewhere in between. That’s Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812: half story, half style, and always a little unexpected. IN this musical, Natasha awaits her fiancé Andrey. His friend Pierre, lost in society and marriage, searches for meaning. When Natasha falls for another man, choices must be made.
Welcome to post-modern theatre, which means no two people in this audience will have the same experience. Some of you will fall for Anatole. Some of you will question the Bolkonskys. Some of you will quietly decide you are Sonya. And that’s the fun of it—every person connects differently.
I’m so proud of the visual storytellers and musical athletes my fearless students have become devising this original and beautiful piece of art with me. The greatest honor of my life is being their teacher.
Welcome to the Opera! Get ready to lean in, laugh a little, maybe cry a little, and definitely walk away with your own version of the story. That’s the comet. That’s the chaos. That’s the point.
